These deities gather traditions of various Sub-Saharan African peoples, from the Bantu to the Akan and Dogon. Worshipped through ancestral rites, masks, and drums, they bind communities to the spirits of nature and the ancestors. Cagn, or Kaggen, is the creator and trickster being of the San (Bushmen) people of southern Africa, often associated with the praying mantis. A master of transformation, he takes many forms and creates life with his magical power. An ambiguous culture hero, he is at once a wise creator and a mischievous trickster, able to die and be reborn. As The Mantis Creator, this deity occupies a position of supreme prestige in the africanos pantheon.
